Bwrned
In the wild this deep-rooted species grows in nutrient poor soils on areas of chalk and limestone grasslands, but can also be found on boulder clays. It has winter-green fern-like, toothed leaves and unusual crimson and green, spherical flower clusters, which appear in summer on long stalks. These plants can live up to 20 years.
Note, that two subspecies occur in Britain, the nominate subspecies sanguisorba, which is the true native 'Salad Burnet', and subspecies balearicum 'Fodder Burnet' which is an alien neophyte, often sown in landscape schemes and is spreading. We only grow the native subspecies.
Height: 20-50cm
Flowers: May - August
Colour: mix of crimson & green
