Also known as pussy willow for its soft paw-like catkins. It is a scrubby tree with round leaves found on wet ground, open woods, hedgerows and scrub land. It is the larval food plant of many moths and butterflies including the rare Purple Emperor butterfly and its flowers are a nectar source for many pollinating insects.
