Glaucous Sedge is a striking native sedge with blue-grey foliage, perfect for naturalistic and wildlife-friendly planting.
It's distinctive and easily recognised by its attractive blue-green to grey-green leaves. Its neat, arching growth and unusual colouring make it a lovely addition to wildflower gardens, grasslands, banks and naturalistic planting schemes.
A hardy perennial, Glaucous Sedge is particularly well suited to chalky and limestone soils, but can grow in a range of well-drained conditions. It thrives in sun or light shade and is an excellent choice for creating a more natural, low-maintenance planting scheme.
In spring and early summer, it produces slender, understated flower spikes above the foliage. Although not showy in the traditional sense, these delicate flowers add texture and interest while contributing to the overall biodiversity of the planting area.
Glaucous Sedge is an excellent native ground-covering plant, helping to provide shelter and habitat for small invertebrates. Its compact, clump-forming habit also makes it useful for stabilising banks and filling gaps between other native plants.
