Blue Fleabane is a charming yet often overlooked British native wildflower, producing clusters of small, daisy-like flowers in soft lilac, pinkish-purple and blue hues, each with a sunny yellow centre. Its slender, often reddish stems and fine, hairy leaves give it a delicate, natural appearance that brings subtle beauty to wildflower planting schemes.
Blue Fleabane thrives in open, sunny places where other plants may struggle, including dry grassland, coastal dunes, quarries and gravelly ground. It is particularly well suited to warm, well-drained soils and naturally sparse habitats.
Growing to around 30–50cm tall, it is an excellent choice for creating naturalistic planting schemes that celebrate the character of Britain’s native flora.
Its small flowers provide nectar and pollen for visiting pollinators, including bees and hoverflies. By incorporating native wildflowers such as Blue Fleabane into your garden or wildlife planting project, you can help provide valuable food sources for insects and support local biodiversity.
Ideal for wildlife gardens, dry grassland restoration, coastal planting schemes and areas of open, free-draining ground. Avoid rich, heavily fertilised soils and excessive competition from vigorous plants.
