Blackthorn is a deciduous shrub that produces a profusion of white flowers in spring before the leaves appear, with sloes maturing into the autumn and winter. It is primarily found in woodland margins, hedgerows and areas of scrub, but also grows well amongst scree and sea cliffs.  

Excellent for pollinators and foodplant of the Brown Hairstreak butterfly, as well as many other invertebrate species.
