Black Horehound is a short lived perennial that flowers in purple whorls around the top half of the stem. It is a medium to tall, aromatic, bushy archeophyte.
It is found on waste grounds, woods, hedgerows and shady places. Due to its abundance of nectar rich flowers and its ability to grow in sun or partial shade, it is a superb addition to any wildlife garden area. A species in decline.
Extremely attractive to pollinators, including bees such as Wool Carder Bee Anthidium manicatum (shown in photo), Fork-tailed Flower Bee Anthophora furcata and Common Carder Bee Bombus pascuorum.
Height: 80cm
