Hawkweed Oxtongue is a very helpful plant in many ways. It is a tall growing and branched biennial or perennial herb of grassland, roadsides and calcareous soils.
It is a good source for food for pollinators, as well as providing a food source for herbivores such as rabbits, deer and livestock. The fibrous roots of this plant is crucial for preventing soil erosion and can play a big part it stabilising soils in disturbed areas.
The rare Brromrape, Orobanche picridis is parasitic mainly on Hawkweed Ox-tongue.
