A clump forming annual/short-lived perennial. Produces a bright yellow flower, which closes at midday and this is why it has earned it's other name as 'Jack-go-to-bed-at noon'. Borne on a tall stem with long strappy leaves. Goat's-beard is mostly known for it's very large delicate globed seed head. Habitats include meadows, pastures, preferring calcareous ground. Also found on verges, hedgerows and waste ground.
