COTTON THISTLE Onopordum acanthium

A striking and tall biennial herb of fields and hedgerows. This tall thistle has coarse silver leaves, a winged stem and a large purple flower head which is attractive to pollinators.

Also known as Scotch Thistle.

Flowers from July to September and is 60 to 200cm tall.
