Commonly known as Sea-Kale, it is a robust, salt-tolerant herbaceous perennial native to the coastal shingle and sand beaches of mainland Europe and the British Isles. Belonging to the Brassicaceae (cabbage) family. It is highly valued both as a striking ornamental garden plant and as a gourmet perennial vegetable.
In early summer, it produces large, dramatic clouds of small, white, honey-scented flowers that heavily attract bees and other pollinators.
This incredibly tough halophyte (salt-tolerant plant) is resistant to drought, maritime exposure, and harsh coastal winds.
