An intense blue, perennial herb with creeping woody stems occurring in free draining calcareous soils, preferring light shade. It can be found in woodland edges and rides, and on along banks in partial shade. On the coast it is found in areas where the cliffs have slumped. A rare species, it spreads by seeds or from rooting at the nodes.
