Produces striking bursts of purple flowers in calcareous grasslands, verges, hedgerows and cliff tops. Thrives in free draining soils and is highly attractive to pollinating species. A particular favourite of the Common Blue, Marbled White and Meadow Brown butterflies. This species has declined significantly during the 20th century.
