Primarily a meadow species that also appears in a range of other habitats, but generally avoids drier soils. The seed heads turn from green to a distinctive red colour during July. Common sorrel has been cultivated for hundreds of years.
Foodplant of the Small Copper butterfly.
Flowers: May-August.
