Alexanders is a tall perennial plant found in coastal locations, grasslands and in hedgerows. It is thought to have been brought across as an edible herb by the Romans, thus making the plant an archeophyte, but important none the less.
137 species of insect have been recorded as having an association with this plant. It is an important plant for pollinators, as it is one of the earliest flowering plants.
It has a large dome of yellow flowers, which then turn into jet black seeds later in the season.
