Yellow Whitlow-grass is in fact a member of the cabbage family and produces an abundance of yellow flowers in the very early Spring, peaking in March. The leaves are persistent year round and develop into cushion-forming clumps. In Britain it has an extremely restricted natural range, only being found on the limestone cliffs of south Gower, typically growing from rock crevices, occasionally in very thin, well-drained soil. Genetic studies have shown that the Gower population is distinct from those in continental Europe.
