Common Dog-violets are very showy purple/blue plants that occur in a wide range of habitats, including open deciduous woodland, hedge banks and road verges, meadows, heaths, moorland, mountain grassland, rocky slopes and cliff ledges. These delightful plants will self seed along shady paths.

Foodplant of the Dark Green Fritillary, High Brown Fritillary, Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Silver-washed Fritillary and Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterfly.

Height: 5 - 10cm.

Flowers: April to June.

Colour: Purple
