Native Juniper bushes found on coastal cliffs in Wales, even when more than 100 years old rarely grow taller than 50 cm, though can attain a heights over 1m in sheltered locations. The species here is largely restricted to exposed outcrops, avoiding the coastal burning of Gorse stands, which Juniper does not recover from. The thinly distributed plants of native Juniper support a surprising assemblage of scarce invertebrate species.
